El Centro Argentino de Protonterapia se construir\u00e1 en terrenos pertenecientes a la UBA. Se prev\u00e9 que para 2022 ya est\u00e9 en pleno funcionamiento<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n
Argentina contar\u00e1 con un centro de protonterapia que tratar\u00e1 tumores complejos y que ser\u00e1 el primero en Am\u00e9rica Latina en tener esta tecnolog\u00eda<\/strong>\u00a0que tiene la particularidad de reducir la exposici\u00f3n de la radiaci\u00f3n en tejidos sanos. El proyecto fue presentado este mi\u00e9rcoles en primer Workshop Argentino de Protonterapia (WArP2019), en la Facultad de Odontolog\u00eda de la UBA.<\/div>\n

El Centro Argentino de Protonterapia (Cearp), cuyo pleno funcionamiento\u00a0se prev\u00e9 para 2022<\/strong>, ser\u00e1 financiado con recursos p\u00fablicos y se estima que el total de la inversi\u00f3n es de alrededor de 80 millones de d\u00f3lares.<\/p>\n

\u201cSer\u00e1 el primero en Am\u00e9rica latina y\u00a0pondr\u00e1 a la Argentina y a sus instituciones de salud en lugar de preponderancia en la regi\u00f3n como instituci\u00f3n de referencia<\/strong>\u201d, destac\u00f3 este mi\u00e9rcoles a la agencia T\u00e9lam Marcelo V\u00e1zquez, profesor de la Universidad de Ciencias de la Salud de Loma Linda en Estados Unidos, el primer centro en el mundo en 1990 que us\u00f3 este tipo de tratamientos en un hospital.<\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan explic\u00f3 el docente, el tratamiento con\u00a0protones permite controlar la radiaci\u00f3n de forma m\u00e1s precisa que los tratamientos convencionales<\/strong>, como los rayos X o los gamma. \u201cCuando los pacientes pedi\u00e1tricos tienen que ser irradiados de tumores en el cerebro, por ejemplo, se puede controlar la dosis de radiaci\u00f3n al m\u00e1ximo en el lugar del tumor y minimizar la dosis que est\u00e1 alrededor, que son tejidos sanos\u201d, destac\u00f3 V\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n

El Cearp\u00a0ser\u00e1 construido en terrenos pertenecientes a la UBA<\/strong>, vecinos al Instituto de Oncolog\u00eda \u00c1ngel H. Roffo, cercano tambi\u00e9n a la Fundaci\u00f3n Centro de Diagn\u00f3stico Nuclear (FCDN), \u201cformando, as\u00ed, un polo oncol\u00f3gico integral de avanzada para la lucha contra el c\u00e1ncer\u201d, describi\u00f3 Gustavo Santa Cruz, gerente de Investigaci\u00f3n y Desarrollo en Aplicaciones Nucleares a la Salud de la CNEA, participante del panel de apertura del workshop.<\/p>\n

Sobre las caracter\u00edsticas del centro, Santa Cruz dijo que \u201ccontar\u00e1 con casi 8.000 metros cuadrados de superficie<\/strong>\u201d, y destac\u00f3 que all\u00ed se \u201cpodr\u00e1n tratar pacientes con patolog\u00edas de dif\u00edcil o imposible resoluci\u00f3n con otras metodolog\u00edas, como el caso de tumores situados pr\u00f3ximos a zonas cr\u00edticas del organismo o tumores pedi\u00e1tricos\u201d.<\/p>\n
